ABOUT

Passion

For more than a decade, Taylor Advising’s founder and principal consultant Marla Taylor has applied her deep understanding of evolving community needs and her expertise in strategy development to drive results for her clients and the community. As a trusted strategist and advisor, Marla has worked side-by-side with countless influential leaders to address issues ranging from regional workforce development challenges to preventing intergenerational poverty and homelessness.

Experience

After studying Sociology and Gender Studies at Indiana University, Marla completed coursework at both the Lilly School of Philanthropy and Leadership Indianapolis’ community leadership programs SKL and LEAD. Before founding Taylor Advising, Marla nurtured her passion for helping others while working directly with survivors of domestic violence at Project Safe. She aligned statewide outcome measurements across dozens of agencies as a Consultant to the Georgia Governor’s Office and lead development and marketing efforts to promote healthy and safe relationships at the Domestic Violence Network. Prior to founding Taylor Advising, Marla spearheaded advising, community development, and strategic planning services for Central Indiana nonprofits as the Director of Strategy and Community Development at Hedges.

Involvement

Marla’s commitment to the community doesn’t end with her clients. She proudly serves on the board of directors for Horizon House and Impact 100 Greater Indianapolis, serves on the SKL advisory council at Leadership Indianapolis, supports the Annual Homeless Persons Memorial Service with CHIP, and volunteers for Brooke’s Place for Grieving Children where she formerly served as Board Chair. In 2018, she received the Community Builder Award from Evergreen Leadership, was recognized by Junior Achievement as a 2018 Indy’s Best and Brightest finalist in Education and Nonprofit, was named the 2020 ELEVATE Awards Board Member of the Year by United Way of Central Indiana, received the Volunteer of the Year Award from Brooke’s Place for Grieving Children in 2021, and was named a member of SKL Class XLVI at Leadership Indianapolis in 2022.

SERVICES

By taking an inclusive approach anchored by principals of design thinking, social responsibility, and transformative mediation, we specialize in helping leaders move bold ideas forward through three lines of services:

Strategic Planning

By grounding our approach in human centered problem solving, we build winning strategic plans that drive organizations to effectively address their biggest challenges and opportunities. By balancing the needs and interests of those impacted by your work with your innovative ideas and expertise in the field, our strategic planning process produces both long-term strategies and near-term tactics to drive you and your team to achieve real results.

Community Development

We understand that fostering stronger, more resilient communities starts with authentically engaging those most impacted by your efforts – the individuals, families, and businesses who call their community home. By working side-by-side with community members to truly understand existing assets, needs, and priorities, our community development services help you leverage current resources and build effective partnerships to create sustained, transformative impact.

Facilitation

Whether you need your board to advocate for your cause, your team to believe in your vision, or your community to ignite a transformative plan, we excel at building trust and consensus within diverse groups through our flexible facilitation services. As a neutral third party skilled in mediation, interactive team training, and supportive facilitation, we can help you make the most of your next meeting or retreat, ensuring productive and fulfilling time for you and your team.
